The new bestseller in our boutique has been the recently released SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2. But you may be wondering what lipids are, and how they can benefit your skin?

Lipids are actually comprised of cholesterol, ceramides and fatty acids, and they are present in your skin and play a role in its appearance and behavior. Their role is to maintain the strength of the skin’s protective barrier, which holds moisture and protects the skin from damage, keeps dirt and impurities away, and aid the skin’s repair process.  What is the 2:4:2 formula?

The lipid formula in the new SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore is 2% pure ceramides, 4% cholesterol, and 2% fatty acids. It is broken down like this:

• Ceramides: this element has been proven to increase hydration and barrier function. A ceramides deficiency is the primary cause of dry skin.
• Cholesterol: this element helps to accelerate the skin’s recovery and improve skin elasticity. The visible appearance of skin aging is usually caused by a cholesterol deficiency in the skin. We must note that the cholesterol on your skin is different from the cholesterol in your blood, and more on your skin does not affect your blood cholesterol levels!
• Fatty Acids: fatty acids help maintain the skin’s lipid balance and are ample in healthy, young skin.

 How do these elements together help your skin?

This combination of lipids is found in healthy, young skin. Due to the aging process, lipid production declines and this often results in the skin taking on a rougher surface texture, tightness, dullness and loss of facial volume. Because the skin’s moisture barrier is compromised, it is more susceptible to irritation and water loss (plumpness goes way down!). Together with professional facial treatments, topical management becomes especially important.
